Thomas W. Strahan, Master Instructor
Master Strahan began his martial arts training in July of 1990 under the instruction of Mr. Chris Hollingsworth. In 1993, Strahan began his instructor training after moving to Birmingham, AL under Mr. Andy August. Shortly before testing for his first black belt in 1994, Strahan moved back to Mississippi and continued his training with his original instructor, Mr. Hollingsworth. In August 1995, he became part owner of then Horizon Tang Soo Do with his instructor. After attaining second degree, Strahan became full owner of Horizon Tang Soo Do, later renaming the studio to Strahan’s Karate Center. Strahan tested for his third degree black belt in 1999 and in 2004 was invited to the WTSDA Master’s clinic. Then in 2007, at the Region 6 Championship in Florence, AL, Master Strahan was awarded his fourth degree Master’s rank.
Through his years of training and instructing, Master Strahan has received numerous Commendations from the World Tang Soo Do Association, and was named instructor of the year two years in a row in 1998 and 1999. Master Strahan was also Region 6 Grand Champion for three years – 1996, 1997, 1999. In 2010, the Strahan Family was named Region 6 Family of the year. Most recently, in January 2011, Master Strahan was named Director of Region 6, World Tang Soo Do Association.
Master Strahan has trained in other martial arts including Han Mu Do under Grandmaster Kim and Master Mike Reed, Hapkido under Grandmaster J R West, and Kempo under Master Dave Kovar.
